My Brain Is On Fire

Every tropical ecologist needs a good t-shirt to wear in the field. Image above is from my favorite t-shirt from the Peruvian Amazon - western Borneo years (1894 - 1995). Shirt has long since been washed into oblivion,  but I was given a promotional postcard of the drawing when I bought the t-shirt in Berkeley, California. It's pinned to the wall of my office. [NOTE: And my brain is still on fire]. 

Getting Started

Recently arrived to Caño Iricahua to visit my Grias plots (see Grias Predated), record mortality data and measure seedling growth, and then wander through the forest and collect plant specimens. Umberto Pacaya (see Umberto Pacaya) is driving the boat, José Tuanama (see The Water Was Up to Here and Need A Ladder?) is standing up in front, and Aurelio Curinuqui (see Aurelio y Luz and second photo in Camu-camu) is standing up in the canoe with his paddle.  Aurelio and his wife gave us the parrots. No idea who took the photo. Elysa? [NOTE: I look like I'm still asleep. It's about a 20 minute boat ride to Iricahua]. 

Choros

Haven't ever posted a 13:00 minute video. But this is really extraordinary. Digital treatment of 32 sequential takes of single movements stretched out over time. In Choros, director Michael Langan painstakingly explores movement by the human body, specifically the movements of dancer Terah Maher. Set to Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians.
