Homalin Sunset

Late afternoon, looking out over the Chindwin River in Homalin. [NOTE: Image taken from the window of my room in the Yati Hotel. Electricity a few hours each night, a (cold) shower, and a thermos of hot water for tea. Seemed palatial relative to previous accomodations (see Basecamp)].

Breakfast Cakes

A young Shan girl sells sweet cakes by candlelight at the Homalin port in Sagaing Region. Was getting on a boat to Htamanthi at about 4:00 AM when I took this picture.

Holding Wires

A lovely Nat statue outside of a restaurant in Homalin, Sagaing Division, does double duty: as an object of veneration (see Nat Worship) and a useful place to store a bunch of excess electrical wire. [NOTE: The empty beer bottle on the table in the restaurant adds even another dimension to the image].

Rice Field

Rice field outside of Homalin in Sagaing Division, Myanmar in late afternoon sun. Whatever effort is required to get to northern Mynamar disappears the moment you catch a glimpse of a landscape like this.  The Chindwin River is off to the left of the image.
