Beautiful Nats
Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 10:44AM
This exquisite carving of a nat spirit adorns one of the main doors to the Mahapasana Cave (see Examination Hall) in Yangon. The blending of nat worship and Buddhism is ubiquitous in Myanmar (see Nat Worship), and nat iconography can be extremely well developed. The image below shows three beautifully rendered nats at the Kyauktawgyi Pagoda (see Kyauktawgyi Buddha).

Well, there is quite different between nat vs nat.....
The curving above is the representation of celestial being also in common language "nat" in myanmar.
The so call "nat worshiping" is for not these celestial being but for some Great hero or famous character in the history. The term worshiping is wrong as no one believe those nat are god or something alike. They just ask them for help when they need or hoping they will help them in the future.
Btw it is not true that Buddhism and nat worshiping is mix. Just the general way to giving respect to senior, elder or person of higher status is common. In this case some one with so call super inhuman power.
