Bonnet Macaque

A bonnet macaque (Macaca radiata Geoffroy) scampers along the wall of a British hill station in the Western Ghats with her baby holding on tightly underneath. I may be wrong, but I believe the image was taken in the BRT Wildlife Sanctuary in the Biligiriranga Hills of southeastern Karnataka. [NOTE: I had mixed results trying to blow the dust and crud off this old slide. Sorry].

Firewood Collectors

A group of women walking out of a forest in the Western Ghats of southwestern India with loads of firewood (and a few leafy vegetables).  Undeniably, a basic need. Indisputably, uncontrolled exploitation of a finite resoure that will ultimately be depleted. Sadly, firewood can be managed like any other forest resource.
