On Webster

On most days, my trip home after work involves a six-block walk down Webster Avenue to the MetroNorth train station. On most days, it is dark, or noisy, or crowded, or cold, or raining, or uneventful. But yesterday... [NOTE: What a great planet we live on].

The Bronx

The Bronx is the home of Edgar Allen Poe, Hip Hop music, The New York Yankees, Stanley Kubrik and The New York Botanical Garden, among other things. (go here to see a list of auspicious Bronx people and things). It also contains a pretty amazing assortment of graffiti.

Image above is from a wall on the corner of Whitlock Avenue and 165th Street. Mural was painted by Tats Cru. These guys started out as graffiti artists, and they were really good graffiti artists, and they discoved that that they could make a living out of it - and not have to do their art in the middle of night. Commercial graffiti. Maybe another first for The Bronx?  [NOTE: For all of the reasons mentioned above, this is a great NYC borough to work in. I used to live in the Norwood section of the Bronx (shown on line 2).

Postcard from The Bronx

Last Friday there was a beautiful snowstorm at The New York Botanical Garden. Huge flakes.  I stopped what I was doing (preparing my class for today), went outside, stood in the snow with my video camera, and did a slow pan.  [NOTE: Full disclosure, I went home shortly after this to enjoy the weather...].
